The spirit of adventure is alive and well in the Western Cape – and if the roar of a Jeep engine and the call of the great outdoors sound like your kind of weekend, then the Jeep Club South Africa might just be your next family obsession.
Founded in May 2005 as Jeep Club RSA, the club was originally created with the backing of Daimler Chrysler South Africa to provide a lifestyle and 4×4 event network for Jeep owners.
In 2009, the club officially became Jeep Club South Africa and steadily expanded nationally across Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Western Cape by 2013.
Today, the club continues to grow through family-focused trail runs, breakfast runs, social weekends, and exciting off-road adventures.
In the Western Cape, the club is led by the energetic and enthusiastic Hans Maree, who has proudly served as Jeep Ambassador and now Chairman.
But don’t expect stiff meetings and formalities. The Jeep Club is all about adventure, camaraderie, mud splashes, mountain passes, laughter around a braai, and unforgettable weekends with like-minded people.
The club caters specifically for owners of Jeep and Willys vehicles, welcoming all models with open arms. Whether you’re driving a rugged Wrangler built for serious off-roading or a classic Willys with loads of character, there’s a place for you in the Jeep family.
And family is exactly the word Hans uses when describing the club.“The Jeep Club is not only a club – we have become a family,” he says with a smile. Spend just a few minutes chatting to Hans and it becomes obvious why the club continues to grow. His passion for the people, the vehicles, and the experiences they share is contagious.
From scenic beginner-friendly trails to extreme obstacle routes that test even the most experienced drivers, every outing offers something different. The club proudly includes many women drivers who tackle trails, conquer obstacles, and fully embrace the Jeep adventure lifestyle. “Our members come from all walks of life,” Hans explains. “We have members of all ages who simply enjoy the outdoors environment that the Jeep Club offers.”
Regular outings are organised throughout the year, giving members and their families the opportunity to explore incredible destinations across the Western Cape and beyond. Some trails wind through breathtaking mountain scenery and river crossings perfect for newcomers wanting to learn the ropes. Others are packed with technical climbs, rocky descents, and nerve-testing obstacles designed for advanced drivers who enjoy pushing both themselves and their vehicles to the limit. And for those new to off-roading, there’s no need to feel intimidated. Safety and support are a major focus within the club.
The Chairman and event organisers are actively involved during outings, walking alongside drivers, guiding them through difficult sections, and teaching proper vehicle handling techniques. It’s a hands-on approach that helps build confidence while ensuring everyone stays safe and has fun.
The club also strongly believes in responsible off-roading and caring for the environment. Respect for nature, trail preservation, and safe driving practices form part of the club’s core values – something members take seriously while still enjoying the thrill of adventure.
What truly sets the Jeep Club apart, though, is the sense of community. It’s not uncommon for complete strangers to arrive at their first event and leave feeling like lifelong friends. Jeep enthusiasts swap stories and technical tips, and everyone shares the same excitement when another Jeep successfully conquers a challenging obstacle.
In a world where people spend more time behind screens than around campfires, the Jeep Club offers something refreshingly real – genuine connection, outdoor adventure, and memories that last far longer than a social media post.
Whether you’re a seasoned off-road enthusiast or someone who simply enjoys exploring beautiful places with good people, the Jeep Club South Africa welcomes you to come along for the ride.
