They say networking is the secret ingredient to business success – well, Automotive Trade Media Cape just served up a winning recipe!
On Friday, 14 March 2025, industry professionals swapped boardrooms, offices and sales counters for bowling greens at the Edgemead Bowling Club for an afternoon of friendly competition, great conversation, and of course, a little bit of chaos on the lawn.
Against the breathtaking backdrop of Table Mountain, the event would prove a perfect mix of business, banter, and bowls.
With a full house of eager attendees and a sweltering yet stunning 34-degree day, the event kicked off at 12h30 as guests arrived to register and claim their well-earned welcome drink and goodie bag – a perfect icebreaker before stepping onto the green.
For many, this was their first time holding a bowls ball, let alone aiming one down a perfectly manicured lawn, but that only added to the fun.
By 13h30, it was game time!
The professional members of Edgemead Bowls Club took on the role of patient mentors, guiding the enthusiastic (and slightly bewildered) crowd through the rules of the game.
The first round was… well, let’s just say, “experimental. ” Bowls went in every direction (sometimes the wrong one), players laughed at their unexpected skills (or lack thereof), and team spirits ran high.
By round two, game faces were ON!
Cheers erupted as some surprised themselves with hidden talent, while others gracefully accepted their sporting limitations.
Win or lose, the true victor of the day was team spirit – by the end of the games, the “bowls bug” had bitten, and attendees were hooked!
By 16h30, the tournament wrapped up, and attendees had not only made valuable business connections but also a few new bowling buddies.
Of course, no competition is complete without a prize-giving ceremony. Thanks to the amazing sponsors – Denie Creates, Unplugged Brand Exposure, and Automotive Paint Professionals –
some lucky winners walked away with fantastic prizes.
The event wasn’t only about fun and business. It was also about giving back – Automotive Trade Media Cape collaborated with the Lucky Lucy Foundation, an animal rescue NPO, and attendees stepped up with generous donations of pet food and cash…. because what’s better than making business connections? Making business connections while helping animals in need.
If there’s one thing better than bowls, it’s a spitbraai feast! Attendees dined in style, indulging in delicious food and decadent dessert. Plates were piled high, and with some going back for second and third helpings, no one left hungry!
As the sun set and the drinks kept flowing, business cards were exchanged, deals were discussed, and new friendships were forged. The biggest takeaway?
✔️ Networking doesn’t have to be boring.
✔️ A fun environment makes business connections stronger.
✔️ Lawn bowls is surprisingly addictive.
With the overwhelming success of this event, one thing is certain—we’re doing it again! Due to popular demand, Automotive Trade Media Cape is thrilled to announce another “Bowls & Beer” networking event coming this October.
If you missed this one—don’t worry! The next round of business, “bowls & beer” (or cooldink) is just around the corner.
Stay tuned for October’s networking day details on social media and future editions of Automotive Trade Media Cape.
