Feel Good Feature – The Wild Buggers Beach Buggy Club, celebrating 30 years of buggin’

The Wild Buggers Beach Buggy Club, established in 1995 by Anton Kleyn, epitomizes a thriving community built on friendship, camaraderie, and a shared passion for beach buggies, a ‘friendship club’ where young and old are welcome to join. As the club celebrates its 30th anniversary, it is a testament to how a simple hobby has flourished into an organized group that not only cherishes outdoor adventures but also contributes positively to the community.

What began as an informal gathering of beach buggy enthusiasts has transformed into a structured and well-respected club. Kleyn’s vision extended beyond the enjoyment of driving these unique vehicles; he aimed to create a supportive environment for individuals who shared his enthusiasm for the outdoors.

What started as a group of 5 beach buggies grew into a club of 20 to 50 buggies that began to organize events and outings. This naturally fostered relationships amongst members from diverse backgrounds. . Over the years, the club has organized various events and charity fundraisers which have significantly contributed to its local community. Such initiatives have allowed members to bond while doing meaningful work, reinforcing the club’s core values of friendship and service.

Influential individuals have played critical roles in shaping the club’s identity. Apart from Anton Kleyn, who provided the initial vision, several other passionate members have volunteered their time and resources to ensure the club’s success. These members have taken on leadership roles, helping to organize events such as a monthly outride every 2nd Sunday of the month and manage club affairs. This collaborative effort has created an environment of inclusivity and encouragement, where new members feel welcomed and supported.

The club’s impact extends beyond just its members, reaching into the community at large. The club’s focus on charitable activities, such as fundraising for local charities, highlights its dedication to giving back and making a positive impact. These efforts mark the club as a responsible community member, promoting values that extend beyond the confines of its immediate membership.

The Wild Buggers Beach Buggy Club has come a long way since its founding by Anton Kleyn in 1995. It has transformed into a vibrant community of friends where individuals share a love for beach buggies, the outdoors, and a commitment to helping others and each other.

The outdoor club’s activities extend beyond the structured and planned monthly rides, embodying a dynamic community fuelled by passion for adventure and exploration. The club facilitates this enthusiasm through a WhatsApp group, which serves as a platform for spontaneous ride announcements.

When asked about the clubs future plans, in true outdoor club enthusiast style, Anton Kleyn remarks,”Keep on buggin’!” – and thats exactly what they will do beginning with their first of 2 camps in March 2025 where the club gathers at a campsite and then continues to explore the area in their buggies.

Membership fees for The Wild Buggers Beach Buggy Club are currently R600 per year which includes a year end function and well organised get-togethers each month.
