Steve Erwin is a talented local artist who specialises in cars, his well organised studio being based in Welcome Glen, a residential area in the Glencairn Valley.
His journey towards success in the art world began at a young age when he discovered his aptitude for art. After matriculating at Jeppe High School for Boys, he went on to study interior design at the University of Johannesburg, where he honed his skills in architectural rendering.
Steve’s career has been marked by various paths, from freelance graphic artistry and interior design to starting his own business with stenciled t-shirts, enhancing them with his own personal flare, hence the account name “Stencilworx”. His decision to focus on automotive art has proven to be a pivotal move, garnering him recognition and success in the industry with his distinctive style and attention to detail.
By combining his artistic abilities with his passion for cars, automotive design and culture, Steve has carved out a unique niche for himself in the art world, attracting a dedicated following of automotive enthusiasts and collectors.
In 2016, Steve and his wife, Ruth, exhibited his work at the Classic Car & Bike Show at Timour Hall. Steve now has regular clients who commission his services, some as far afield as Germany, United Kingdom, Australia and the USA – all original works personally designed by Steve himself. All his artwork is either watercolors, acrylics, airbrushed or combinations of these mediums.
Steve’s decision to focus on automotive art stemmed from his realization that there was a demand for high-quality, unique artwork in the automotive industry. By tapping into this niche market, Steve was able to distinguish himself from other artists and establish his own unique brand within the industry.
