The Classic Car & Bike Show which was held at Timour Hall Villa, Plumstead on the 20th and 21st January 2024 was nothing short of amazing! The event which is held each year on the second last weekend celebrated its 22nd year of this event. The team behind the scenes have dedicated their time and efforts to the show which is an annual fundraiser for the IPA (International Police Association) as well as various other charities in and around the Cape Town area.
All members volunteer their services for this event. Arrangements begin in July/August each year and escalate from October until after the event.
Events Organiser, Colin Greyvensteyn, highlighted the fact that this year they had an increase in the number of visitors with over 2000 on Saturday and over 3000 on Sunday. The Classic Car & Bike show attracts an array of visitors, young and old, enthusiasts of all ages.
The vehicle displays on each day differ as the Saturday consists of Modern Classics and the Sunday is a variety of Vintage Classics.
The highlight in the Vintage division was the 1901 Benz Ideal, 1100cc Single Cylinder with a sliding gear 3 speed gearbox. The Ideal was bought new by the owner of Timour Hall Estate in 1901 where it stayed until 1933 when it was passed to UCT and was driven in RAG processions. Since 1966, it has been under the custodianship of the Crankhandle Club.
