Feel Good Feature – Paws & Purpose: Why the Lucky Lucy Foundation Was the Obvious Choice for Bowls & Beer

When considering which non-profit organisation to support for our upcoming Bowls & Beer networking event, the decision to collaborate with the Lucky Lucy Foundation required no deliberation. It was a clear and resounding yes.

The work that this remarkable NPO does is more than just admirable — it’s transformational. For countless neglected and abused animals, the Lucky Lucy Foundation offers a second chance at life, love, and dignity.

A beacon of compassion Since 2010, the Lucky Lucy Foundation has grown into a sanctuary of hope for animals that have known only pain and neglect.

Registered as a nonprofit (NPO: 091-636 | PBO: 930-036-404), this organisation is committed to improving the quality of life of domestic animals, with a particular focus on cats and dogs that have endured severe abuse or abandonment.

What makes Lucky Lucy more than just another rescue centre is their proactive approach — they don’t just rescue animals; they work tirelessly to break the cycle of suffering at its roots.

At the heart of their mission is a relentless focus on sterilisation. The team at Lucky Lucy understands that the overpopulation of domestic animals is one of the core challenges contributing to widespread neglect. Their answer? Prevent unwanted litters before they begin.

Thanks to their involvement in the National Sterilisation Project (NSP) and their own on-site sterilisation clinic offering services of ethical veterinary surgeons from practices nearby, the foundation is able to offer these critical services — when funding allows.

Their goal is to ensure every animal they encounter is given a healthier life, and that fewer animals are born into a world with too few loving homes.

They also extend their services beyond the shelter. Recognising the needs of pet owners in underprivileged communities, Lucky Lucy assists destitute owners by assisting pet owners with sterilisation and essential veterinary care. This compassionate, preventative approach doesn’t just improve individual lives — it alleviates long-term suffering across entire communities.

Just a short trip down the N7 towards Malmesbury, the Lucky Lucy Foundation’s rescue centre is home to a staggering 180 dogs and 391 cats. While the numbers might seem overwhelming, what you’ll find is not a place of chaos, but a haven of care, structure, and love.

Whether it’s the gentle touch of a volunteer, the playful bark of a dog rediscovering joy, or the contented purring of a cat curled up in a sunbeam, every inch of the property radiates the dedication of the people behind it.

Permanent staff work hand-in-hand with volunteers, all committed to giving these animals the best possible life while they wait for their forever homes. From morning walks to evening feeds, enrichment activities to vet visits — every detail is managed with respect and empathy.

Rescue is just one part of the solution. At the Lucky Lucy Foundation, education plays a crucial role in long-term transformation. Their outreach efforts focus on pet-specific education, teaching compassion, responsibility, and respect for all life forms. Whether it’s a community workshop or a one-on-one chat with a new pet owner, their team is always working to break the cycle of ignorance that often leads to animal cruelty.

Through this vital work, they’re not only healing animals — they’re cultivating a new generation of conscious, accountable pet owners.

While their current impact is already profound, the Lucky Lucy Foundation has its sights set even higher. Their dream is to develop a fully-fledged veterinary service on-site — one that would allow them to treat more animals, run more sterilisation campaigns, and support even more struggling pet owners in surrounding communities. This vision requires resources — both human and financial — and this is where events like Bowls & Beer come in.

Join us on the 17th October 2025, when we’ll be hosting our much-anticipated Bowls & Beer networking day — and this year, it means even more. Whether you’re in it for the fun, the networking, or the chance to make a real difference, your participation will echo far beyond the bowling green. You’ll be helping sterilise animals, fund critical medical procedures, and provide food, shelter, and love to creatures who’ve had too little of it.

If networking isn’t your style, there are other ways to help:

Adopt: Consider giving one of Lucky Lucy’s many lovable cats or dogs a forever home.

Volunteer: They’re always looking for extra hands — whether it’s walking dogs, helping with admin, or lending skills in any form.
