Garrys M & G was founded in 1998, initially operating out of a small location in Montague Gardens, with a primary goal of ensuring customers have a positive experience when it comes to installing, repairing, or servicing lifting equipment.
Owner and founder, Gary Lombard, whose love for everything automotive inspired his journey, became a qualified mechanic with a specialization in BMWs. After gaining experience at Automotive Equipment Company, Equipment International, and Automotive Garage Supplies, Gary realized it was time to launch his own business. What began as a venture in selling used cars evolved into a career within the automotive equipment industry, where he began importing his own lifts and automotive tools. The original location in Montague Gardens quickly became too small, prompting a move to larger premises just off Montague Drive, where the new facility featured a showroom, workshop, and yard to accommodate the expanding business.
After many years of successful operation, Gary chose to sell the business to focus on importing quality products at competitive prices, distributing them through Garrys M & G in the Cape and seeking additional distributors across South Africa. Unfortunately, the agreements were not upheld, leading to the establishment of a new company, Direct Toolquip, based in Killarney Gardens.
The company continued to source, import, and deliver quality service to both new and existing clients, steadily building a stock of affordable, high-quality equipment to meet customer demands.
At that time, Louis Greeff teamed up with Gary, resulting in the formation of ROGARY, which was set up to handle installations, repairs, and maintenance for equipment.
In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, businesses around the world were forced to adapt and make significant changes to their operations in order to survive. Garrys M&G was no exception.
As the restrictions and challenges brought on by the pandemic continued to mount, the management team at Direct Toolquip made the difficult decision to move their entire operation to a new location in Railway Rd. Montague Gardens. This move was not only a response to the changing business landscape, but also an opportunity to streamline their operations and improve the overall efficiency of the company.
With the move complete, the management team at Direct Toolquip decided to take the opportunity to rebrand the business. The original name, Garrys M&G, was re-registered, symbolizing a fresh start and a renewed commitment to providing top-quality service to their customers.
Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the team at Garrys M&G remained steadfast in their mission to provide excellent service to their customers. From delivering and installing equipment to providing ongoing maintenance and support, every member of the team are committed to going above and beyond to meet the needs of their clients. This dedication to customer service set Garrys M&G apart from their competitors, earning them a loyal following of satisfied customers.
