The Deestone King of Sand 4×4 event held at Outrek 4×4 on the 24th of August 2024 was a thrilling showcase of off-road driving skills and determination.
This event, located on the Old Mamre Road between Melkbosstrand and Atlantis, brought together beginners and experts in the 4×4 community, all vying for a spot on the podium. With two classes set up to cater to different skill levels, as well as an open class for beginners, the event promised a day filled with adrenaline and mud, thanks to the ever-changing Cape Town weather.
Spearheaded by organiser Denille de Kock and sponsors (Deestone and RAW4x4) the event was a great success with avid 4×4 enthusiasts showcasing their passion for off-road driving and their technical driving skills in a safe and controlled environment. With August being Women’s Month, the organisers included a category for the ladies too with a “Queen of the Sands” division included. At the Deestone King of Sand 4×4 event, the impact of the challenging course was evident in the faces of both beginners and experienced drivers. The challenging terrain, including sand based obstacles, steep declines and sharp inclines, exacerbated by the recent rains in Cape Town, tested the skills of even the most seasoned drivers. Navigating through the course required precision, control, and quick decision-making, pushing participants to their limits and showcasing their driving abilities. As the day wore on, the teams tackled obstacle after obstacle, each one more challenging than the last. Spectators lined the sidelines, cheering on their favourite particpants and gasping in awe as the drivers tackled each obstacle with skill and precision.
The drivers pushed themselves and their vehicles to the limit, maneuvering through the course with a combination of finesse and brute strength.
Despite the challenging conditions, the Deestone King of Sands 4×4 event brought together a diverse group of individuals, with exceptional camaraderie among competitors. The sense of accomplishment after conquering difficult obstacles, and the thrill of pushing one’s limits were all part of the experience. For beginners, the event provided an opportunity to learn from more experienced drivers and improve their skills, while experts were able to showcase their talents and compete for top honors.
As the event came to an end, the winners were announced amidst cheers from the crowd.

Teams would be required to enter with a team of a particular brand of vehicle or club name, with each team consisting of five people. There would be two classes in which teams could compete – a male/male driver class and a mixed class where each team member would participate in four obstacles as well as time trials.
This will be the last event of the year and one not to be missed by entrants and spectators alike. For more information or to enter in the Deestone Battle of the Brands event, contact Denille de Kock on 072 268 1551 or email epicoffroadevents@gmail.com.
